Now Departing from Platform 54: A 32-Year Long Railway Journey
About
Now Departing from Platform 54: A 32-year Long Railway Journey by Douglas Tetlow is a set of memoirs tracing his journey through his childhood, into developing an interest in railways upon his moving to Euxton, Chorley in 1968. His new home was close to the West Coast Main Line, being the catalyst to his interest. The memoirs continue with Douglas joining British Rail in 1972 through to his retiral from Network Rail in 2004. The book seeks to highlight the humorous side of situations and the people encountered along the way. It includes a variety of topics, including some serious, e.g., improved signalling and safety on the railways over the last 50 years, together with events in Freight Train Planning in Buchanan House, Glasgow and Douglas’s travels around the railways in the UK and abroad.
